About this project

Read: Amritbani — a free, open, ad-free home for the Amritbani Satguru Ravidas Maharaj Ji, so anyone, anywhere, can read it.

The intention

The Amritbani Satguru Ravidas Maharaj Ji is the holy scripture of the Ravidassia religion, compiling the teachings of Guru Ravidas — Shabads, Pade, and Salok, along with shorter banis for daily and occasional use. The aim here is simple: a calm, beautiful place to read it on any device, in Gurmukhi, with transliteration for those still learning the script, and translation alongside. Nothing to buy, nothing in the way of the text.

What's inside

The scripture is organised into sections that can be browsed from the Contents page: 140 Shabads (hymns set to raga), 40 Pade (couplets), 230 Salok (epigrammatic verses), and shorter compositions — Painti Akhri, Bani Haftawar, Bani Pandran Tithi, Bara Maah Updesh, Saand Bani, Shadi Updesh, Suhag Ustat, Manglachar, and Anmol Vachan.

Source & where this stands today

The English translation and Roman transliteration are sourced from Amritbani Satguru Ravidass Maharaj Ji (Steek), translated by Sh. Piare Lal and published by the Shri Guru Ravidass Janam Asthan Public Charitable Trust — Dera Sach Khand Ballan's own head office in Varanasi. It's an official institutional publication, not a fan transcription.

Gurmukhi script is not yet included. This English edition doesn't contain it — the original Gurmukhi text exists as scanned page images of a separate Punjabi steek edition, also published by Dera Sach Khand Ballan. Adding it means either careful OCR or manual transcription against those scans, checked by someone who reads Gurmukhi, so it isn't rushed in. Until then, every entry shows the Roman transliteration and English commentary as printed in the source.
